Expert lecture on ELT prof. Atanu Bhattacharya.

On  25th, 26th and 27th January 2020 we had the expert lecture on ELT by Atanu Bhattacharya. In that lecture Sir has talked about the History of ELT, Literature for Language Teaching : poem & Fiction, Testing & Evaluation : validity, Realizability & Washback. He began his talk with the History of English Language Teaching. This history is devided in to five part. The Classical. Middle Age. Renaissance. 17th and 18th Century. 19th and Early 20th century.  Then he talked about the IPA; International  Phonetic Acossication. In 1880 IPA realized that it is important to teach spoken language. Because outside the world how we spoke is important. They also say that it is important to teach sounds. For that they give the idea of  received pronunciation (RP).  Then he also talked about the Two method. 1. Audio - lingual Method 2. Communicative Language Teaching method. He also talked about the Five mejor fiction in English. Representative  Directive.

The discourse of power and politics in Harry Potter:  When we see Harry Potter we realized that in this also we find the power politics. The first article is titled as,  "  The Politics of Harry Potter: Corrupt Law and Totalitarian Government. "   The author of the article is Samantha Love. In this article author compare our parliament with Harry Potter's ministry of magic. And says that,   "In JK Rowling’s famous books, the Ministry of Magic has an incredible amount of power with very few ways of ensuring it is used properly."  The author further add that, '  It is a good study in how  not  to organize a state, and it’s through using examples from the series that we can really begin to understand how important it is that executive and legislative power is controlled

Web Quest activity on Harry Potter.

As  I have mentioned in my previous blog that I will take about two topic in my each blog. So here in this blog I will talk about first two topics.  1. Feminist reading of character of Harmione in Harry Potter.   The first article  titled as,  "Harry Potter through the Focus of Feminist Literary Theory: Examples of (Un)Founded Criticism."  The author of this article is  Krunoslav MIKULAN . In this article author says that in Harry Potter we see that girls do have any significant role. Thought Harmione works with the Harry she has very less contribution in physical fight. But she is good with library work. Apart from Harmonie author also give the example of Goblet of fire. There was only girl in the compition  named as Fleur. But we also see that she was not able to complete whole task. And in lake task she was the one who quit. In short author believe that this Novel is boy centric. The Bible did not arrive by fax from heaven. The Bible is the product of man, my dear. Not of God. The Bible did not fall magically from the clouds. The novel The white Tiger is written by Aravind Adiga. The novel published in 2008 and also won Ann Booker Price in same year. The story is of Balram Halwai's " rags to riches ". The story can also read as confession of Balram Halwai. We see that he also try to justify what he did. Here perspective is personal so we can say that this India is India from eyesight of Balram. The novel talks about the contract between India's rise rise as a modern global economy and lead character Balram who comes from crushing rural poverty. About this Adiga say, At a time when India is going through great changes and with China is likely to inherit the world from the West it is important that writer like me try to highlight the brutal injustice of ( Indian ) society.
