Reading Habit survey Analysis :

What is Reading?

Reading is a process of looking at a serious of a written symbol and getting meaning from them. When we look at this definition we see that reading is something which allows us to have meaning from the symbols.

Now when we are leaving in 21st  century we see that we don’t olny get meaning from written words but also we get meaning from the pictures, GIF, and also from other moving picture. So this time we cannot say that we reading a words from the book is only reading. But also when we are watching a movie at that time also we are reading. While watching movie we are reading moving pictures, expression of the character, words spoken by s/he.

So, when this all things are part of the reading at that time we need to know how reading habits are changing.

Basic details about my survey:

To know about this I had done one survey. I have prepared one Google form and share that with the people and request them to fill that for me.  Some of the basic detail of it is below.

In the Google form there are 25 questions about their reading. I have asked them that which newspaper they are reading. Also asked about the supplementary reading form that newspaper. One of the questions is about the magazine they reading. Also I have asked them that are they reading the novels or any other form of Literature. I have asked them about are they watching a movie, serials, and web series and if they are watching that which they are. Also there is question about the last book which they read and last movie they have watched.

Now a days we also see that most of people using their smart phone for entertainment also. So they can watch the things whenever they want and also there is no need to be on particular place the way it used to be on time of T.V. and for this most of people are using different kind of application.  So there is also question related to that.

Apart from this I have asked them about the money they are spending on entertainment thing. And do they have any Budget for entertainment

Thought in my mind while analysing the answer : 

When I was analysing the answer I found that most of the reply was given by the female responder.  That thing has affected my thoughts about the answer. The very first thing I thought was that now answer of magazine will be Grushobha but surprisingly I was wrong.

When I have asked them about the question related to the  Newspaper reading then there are 50% people who said yes to the Gujarat Samachar.

There was also question about the supplementary reading then in the question of the Which supplementary reading they are reading from Gujrat Samachar. Then there was a one option is  ‘plus’ which is not appropriate because that is not provided in all the city. So that has problem but then there are some responders who has selected that option. So I asked them that are they actually reading that or not ? Then they said because in there city they have this because there is more number of Readers.

There was also one question which is misunderstood by some of the people. The question is are you reading newspaper from WhatsApp ? What I wanted to know is that is there some who send them PDF copy of that or not.  But many of them have thought I am asking about the text massage. So after realized that I asked them is they Cross check the information or news which are forwarded to them. Many of them say that yes they are Cross  check but still people are there who said that they don’t Cross check that because they thing that, the person who has sent them may have checked.

 When the question  of web series come I have thought that in the question of the webs series all will say yes.  Also when sir suggests that I should ask them question about the budget without think I told him no one will have the budget for entertainment.


The actual result was different then what I was thinking: 


The results are different then I was thinking. The answer of the magazine says that most people are reading the Safari.


When I was analysing the answer of the serials then 60.2% people has said that yes they are watching. Then I thought that it may possible because the female responders are more than male responder.




I was also wrong about the web serious because still 49.6% percent people are not watching. My thought about that is influenced by the people around me. Because everyone around me is watching web serious that doesn’t mean all people watching.  Still this web serious is not the thing everyone are prefer.





The last question is about the budget.  Answer of which I was expecting that everyone will say no was also wrong. There are people who have their own budget for entertainment.





Answer I got from the people while talking to them:

When I was analysed the answer I got from te people i asked them some of the question according to their answer given in form.  I asked them question like,

1. What they do after reading the book?  Do they kept the book with them or they give that someone?

2. Do they share information about the book to anyone?

3. They prefer to read book online or still they prefer to read book on that traditional way of reading?

4. Last I asked them who say that actually they have budget or they say yes just for the sake of saying?


Answer I got from them:

Some of them have said that they kept the book after reading. But there are people who said that they don’t perches the book.  Just they borrow the book from the library. One of my responder says that he subscribes the book from one application. But they have rule that if something happens to book that then they have to purchase the book and pay for the book.

But most of them say that they don’t review the book but if some asked them about the book then they share information. When it comes to which way of reading they prefer.  They say that they still prefer the traditional way of reading.  But all they are around the age of the thirty. So then I also asked some of the people whose age is around the 20. So they said that for them it is important to read the book they don’t have problem with the way of the reading.

When I asked them about the budget that how they divided their budget then they say that they don’t have different budget for the book and movie.  They have fix amount for the entertainment. From that only they buy books and also watching movie.

What I come to know from this :

So, from this I have come to know about how our way of entertainment is changing. I also come to know that still people around thirty prefer traditional reading. But slowly that is changing.
